November 8^th, 2016, “a date which will live in infamy” (President Franklin Delano Roosevelt), is the day that bungling demagogue, malignant sociopath and serial liar Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. Trump’s virulent administration is rife with dysfunction, corruption and chaos, as his daily assault upon the truth through his incessant lying, deceit and duplicity have become commonplace. There is no historical precedent in America with regard to this extreme level of incompetence, malfeasance and mendacity, as the woefully unqualified, deranged imbecile who occupies the Oval Office spews a continuous avalanche of acrimonious invectives, bogus assertions and outrageous lies for political, ideological and personal gain. Without truth there can be no trust. Without trust there can be no rule of law. Without rule of law, there can be no democracy. “When words stop meaning something, when truth doesn’t matter, when people can just lie with abandon, democracy can’t work” (President Barack Obama). As our democracy continues to deteriorate and unravel under Trump’s atrocious leadership, America has become a global laughingstock and the object of widespread ridicule – he has divided us as a nation and humiliated us on the world stage. Under Trump’s unstable, ignominious mismanagement, America’s government has devolved into a toxic, dystopian regime that can be best described as the fusion of ‘KAKISTOCRACY’ (a system of government which is run by the worst, least qualified, most unprincipled, unscrupulous citizens) and ‘IDIOCRACY’ (government by idiots or people of low intellectual capacity) that is worthy only of vilification, censure and condemnation. America’s 45th President, whose limitations of character and intellect, combined with the unprecedented extent of his appalling dishonesty, vast incompetence and profound ineptitude, will stand as an enduring monument to universal stupidity and ignorance that will leave an indelible stain on the United States forever.

Trump is not only intellectually, ethically and morally unfit for leadership, he is a contemptible ignoramus whose disgusting, incendiary rhetoric has unleashed a dangerous rise in racism, nationalism and hatred in this country.  He has empowered all kinds of deplorable extremists, including right wing zealots, white supremacists, Neo-Nazis, Q-Anon, the Ku Klux Klan and many other reprehensible groups who have similar ways of thinking. “They speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and hate mongers among us” (Dr. Hunter S. Thompson). In today’s chilling political climate, Trump utilizes fear, intimidation and paranoia to create a foundation for authoritarianism and neo-fascism, where the systemic, all out false propaganda and autocratic disinformation blitz (the same kind which fueled the abhorrent rise of Adolf Hitler’s evil dictatorship in Nazi Germany and still exists today in totalitarian dominions like Russia, China & North Korea) appeals to the worst kind of people in our fragmented society. “The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command” (George Orwell).

We are living in the Age of Ignorance, a Post-Truth Era, an era of Alternative Facts (the substitution of opinion for evidence and facts) where there is much information but little knowledge. We have in this country a disturbingly unenlightened electorate where a great number of people with limited comprehension and inadequate cognitive ability voted for an unprincipled, perfidious and fraudulent reality TV game show host to occupy the highest office in the land. This reflects not only the deeply flawed and extremely low standard of education that we have in the United States, but an astonishing level of cognitive dissonance. The dim, O V I N E (oblivious, vacuous, ignorant, nescient, execrable) sheeple who voted for Trump and who continue to support this mendacious dotard will be perpetually defined by their lying, their hypocrisy and their stupidity. Trump’s blissfully benighted sycophants, whose wisdom is exceeded only by their ignorance, have abandoned their principles, core values and ethical responsibilities – they are vacuous enablers and apologists who continue to blindly support a pathological liar whose incessant, flagrant disregard for truth is appalling. “Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr). Make no mistake – America is under siege from Trump and the terminally ignorant who think as he does.

Trump has manipulated the uneducated “to turn vice into virtue and slander into truth, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice” (Joseph Heller). Who could have envisaged that a moronic buffoon with no government experience, numerous sexual assault charges, multiple bankruptcies and thousands of lawsuits could become the leader of the free world? It is indeed a tragic irony that a pusillanimous draft dodger who is spurious to the bone (Trump avoided serving his country during the Vietnam War after he received no less than five specious deferments for military service due to ‘bone spurs’) is now the Commander-in-Chief of the world’s most powerful military. “Imagine the people who believe such things and who are not ashamed to ignore, totally, all the patient findings of thinking minds through all the centuries. And it is these ignorant people, the most uneducated, the most unimaginative, the most unthinking among us, who would make themselves the guides and leaders of us all” (Isaac Asimov). For their unpardonable transgressions, these opprobrious, feeble minded heathen bear a mark of permanent shame and shall be condemned to eternal disgrace. In the end, “the only final sin is stupidity” (Dr. Hunter S. Thompson).

As we move forward, we must summon the strength, belief and wisdom we have within to overcome this, one of the darkest periods in our nation’s history. The time has come to eradicate the festering cesspool of ignorance, hatred, racism, classism, corruption and greed that are manifest in America today. We must stand together and rise up against the injustice that Trump and his kakistocracy have wrought in America these past four years. We must stand together and use the power of the vote at every level (national, state and local). We must stand together and reclaim the executive branch of government by voting Donald Trump out of office. We must stand together and vote to reclaim the legislative branch of government by winning a majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives. We must stand together and vote to reclaim good, conscientious government at local levels. We must stand together to change the face of politics and restore principle, character, honesty and integrity. We must stand together and stop the infection from spreading. We must stand together to SHIFT THE PARADIGM.

If you are outraged by the fact that American Exceptionalism is now defined by these stark realities: America has the highest poverty rate among advanced nations; America has mortality rates that are among the highest in the developed world; America leads the world in incarcerated citizens (we have 5% of the world’s population but 25% of the world’s prisoners); America has the most guns, the most mass shootings, the highest level of defense spending and the highest national debt in the world. The numbers do not lie – the time has come to SHIFT THE PARADIGM.

The first step is to believe that we can make a difference, individually and collectively, in bringing about change for the better.  We need leadership that believes in producing educated and informed citizens, where intelligence, honesty, principle, character and moral rectitude are the standards by which we live our lives and build the foundation upon which we can foster the coming generations of children. Knowledge is power, and knowledge leads to informed, layered and critical thinking that is based upon a growth mindset. By enlightening yourself and others, we will come ever closer to the goal of eradicating tyranny, injustice, persecution, oppression and ignorance. “The secret of freedom lies in educating people, whereas the secret of tyranny is in keeping them ignorant” (Maximilien Robespierre).
